I graduated from Rutgers University with a BFA in photography. It was clearly one of the best times of my life! After graduating, I was able to intern and work for Still Life and Fashion Photographers in Manhattan during the mid to late 80’s. While photography was never a full time job, it has alwaysbeen an important part
of my life. Lately I have been photographing dogs for ads, and owners who want to remember their dearest friend in pictures. I prefer photographing in natural settings.
It personalizes the photograph
and makes for a much more
interesting image.
I have always had dogs around while growing up. The first one was a Scottie named McTavish. I was told he was annoyed by me because of my wreck-less driving of Tonka toys. I started showing my own Gordon Setters and
a field Spaniel named Madeline in the late 80’s. I took a few years off from showing, and then in 2000, I was able to get a wonderful Irish Water Spaniel named “Reggie." A year and a half later “Frank” came along, my Mini Wired Haired Dachshund. They both finished quickly, and I was able to put Reggie in the top five of his breed. Shortly after this I started showing other breeds for clients. I have had success with many breeds in different groups. I average no more than 6 dogs at a show. Quality and care is more sensible than quantity and chaos. There is no breed I wouldn’t want in my hands, and I feel honored when someone approaches me to
show their dog!
In 1986 I started working for a Publishing company. I started in the technical part of the company and soon moved to design. Eventually, I was managing entire programs and was moving further away from design. While balancing this job and showing on weekends, I started doing Ads for show dogs. I strive to keep the ads unique, practical, and inviting. Being able to do the photography, I can tailor the look of the ad resulting in a well thought out product.
